Event Descriptions:

The 17th annual Hit the Bricks will vary from the traditional event. Rather than a one-day relay race around Hearn Plaza, there will be a combination of virtual and in-person events to raise awareness and funds for the Brian Piccolo Cancer Research Fund.

Hit the Bricks Running Challenge: Rather than a lap challenge per usual, a mile challenge will be held from Monday, September 28th at 12:01AM until Thursday, October 1st to keep the spirit of Hit the Bricks alive. Individuals on teams will track their running using the Strava app and if surpassing 100 miles, will get 25 bonus points added to their team total. Teams can fundraise by having friends and family pledge to donate $X per mile of running. At the end of the week, the teams that ran the most miles by Wednesday at 5PM and Thursday by 12PM will be invited to the Closing Ceremony and receive a Hit the Bricks 2020 Brick.

Quiz the Bricks (Sponsored by Sonoco): Each night, individuals will be sent a Zoom link and Kahoot code to log on with their team name and be asked live questions on topics related to Hit the Bricks. 10 questions will be asked each night and the winners will be determined by the most correct answers in the shortest amount of time. Sonoco is sponsoring this event and will be donating $125 to the 1st place winner’s team, $75 to the 2nd place winner’s team, and $50 to the 3rd place winner’s team.

Find the Bricks (On campus): This event is a daily scavenger hunt taking place physically on campus. Each day a Hit the Bricks 2020 Brick will be hidden for individuals to search for. Whoever finds it gets to keep the brick. If the brick is not found by 3PM or 5PM a hint will be released on the @wfuhitthebricks Instagram. The person finding the brick will find with it an envelope detailing what to do, including tagging @wfuhitthebricks and #FoundtheBrick on Instagram.

Find the Bricks (Social media): This event also occurs daily and will take place through social media posts on Instagram. The virtual scavenger hunt will have one selected campus organization’s Instagram include a hidden brick in a post. The first individual to comment on that post that they #FoundtheBrick and tag @wfuhitthebricks and include their team name will win. There will be a list of all participating campus organization’s Instagrams provided to registered participants of Hit the Bricks.

Sprint the Bricks (Time Trials): Keeping up with HTB tradition, one individual per team will come to Hearn Plaza throughout the day to run one lap around the upper quad. Those with the fastest times will receive the most bonus points, but all teams who send a member to complete a lap no matter the time will get bonus points. Teams will be designated a time slot for a member to check-in with a Hit the Bricks staff member and run a timed lap in order to follow campus safety guidelines.

Final Fundraising Competition: From the time or registration and through October 1st, teams will be challenged to raise the most money for the Brian Piccolo Cancer Research Fund. Two fundraising winners will be determined: the team with the most money raised by Wednesday, September 30th at 5PM, and the team with the most money raised by Thursday, October 1st at 5PM. Both teams will be invited to the Closing Ceremony and all members of winning teams will receive a HTB 2020 Brick. Since the running challenge ends at noon on Thursday, fundraising will be extremely important if you want to win a Hit the Bricks 2020 Brick and be invited to the Closing Ceremony.

Closing Ceremony: In similar Hit the Bricks tradition, a Closing Ceremony will be held to recognize the teams that have ran the most miles, the teams that have raised the most money, and those who fight or have lost the battle against cancer. Speakers will have the chance to speak about the impact cancer has had on their lives and attendees will walk a commemorative silent lap around Hearn Plaza. The team with the most miles and the team who has raised the most by 5PM on Wednesday will be invited and receive a Brick, and the team with the most miles and the team with the most money raised by Thursday at 12PM will be invited and receive a Brick as well.
