Team: Finance Division

Running in honor of: Jackie Brown

Bio: I'm looking forward to walking for the Finance Division at WFU. My family may also come register as guests to walk.

I'm walking on behalf of Jackie Brown, a childhood role model that I had as a child. His family modeled care for others, community involvement, and relationship with God. He past away after battling cancer.

He was the first African American football player to earn a varsity letter for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks, and was the university's first African American starter in football. He was honored in November 2013 at an event called "Celebrating Pioneers and Embracing Change," where he was recognized for being the first African American to play for the University of South Carolina's Gamecocks.

He was drafted by the Baltimore Colts in the 15th round of the 1973 NFL draft. He was also drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in baseball. He became a Christian minister and staff evangelist. He turned down a professional football contract with the Washington Redskins to go into Christian ministry.
