Day-Of Schedule of Events:
Due to the weather, the schedule is subject to change. Please follow our Instagram page for up-to date announcements and official information.
NOTE EVENT WILL NOW END AT 5 PM
In addition to our traditional activities during the day-long relay, we will be holding the following events:
Check-in (9 a.m.): A team representative should come to the table in front of the Taylor bookstore between 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. There you will pick-up your team’s DeaconOne card, backpack and a bag with all the t-shirts for your team. If you arrive after 10:45, please plan to check-in after the event has started, since we will be working on the opening ceremony.
Set-Up (8:30 a.m.-11 a.m.): Team areas on the Quad are claimed on a first come, first serve basis. Teams should also bring their own tents/tables if they wish. Once you have the Deacon Onecard/backpack and have identified a meeting point on the quad your team is ready to move around the quad!
Opening Ceremony (10:55 a.m.): Meet at the stage in front of Wait Chapel. You will hear from special guests including Dr. Wente, Dr. Kidd Brown and Dr. Katherine Ansley of the Compressive Cancer Center. Please ensure that all present members of your team join us for this occasion. The opening ceremony begins promptly at 10:55 a.m.
Lap Tracking: Each team will have a unique DeaconOne card which is used to track your laps. Every time you pass by the big tent, you will scan your card to contribute to your total. Any participant wearing the team backpack will get credit for two laps each time they pass under the tent. Note: only one person per team will be able to count laps at a time. So, walking or running together will not get you extra laps. For some teams, this means one person running/walking for a long shift at a time. For others it means passing off the card every single lap.
Find-the-Brick (all day): If the golden mini-brick remains to be found, clues will go out as to where it is hidden.
Specialty Laps: Throughout the day, there will be periods of time where teams can participate in themed bonus laps that offer more points to their team’s total if they participate. Sponsors can sponsor a bonus lap of their choice, if interested. This year’s specialty laps will include:
- Bears/Football Jersey Lap (11:30 am) – run while wearing a football jersey; even more points if it’s a Chicago Bears jersey
- Conga Line Lap (12:30 pm) – grab 3 teammates and show us your best conga line
- Dancing in the Rain (1:30 pm) – Do your best Wake ‘N Shake impression and dance around the quad!
- Onesie Lap (2:30 pm) – run while wearing any type of onesie
- Penalty Lap (3:30 pm)- donate to make running laps more challenging for other teams; penalties may include running with an extra heavy backpack, only being able to walk, etc.
- Family Lap (4:30 pm) – get a family member of any teammate to run a lap
Banner Competition (at the start of the day): Teams are invited to paint a banner and bring it to Hit The Bricks. Any teams that bring a banner will receive 10 laps if they participate!
Crossword Puzzle (at the start of the day): Teams will solve a crossword puzzle related to Wake Forest. When it is completed, it will be returned to the starting table where it will be checked by a co-chair, and if completed correctly, the team will receive 5 laps!
Fundraising Hour: The team that raises the most from 2-3pm will gain twenty-five extra laps! A value of over six miles of running!
Penalty Hour: At 3:30pm there will be an opportunity for one team in each division to penalize another team in their respective division. Leading up to 3:30pm, teams will collect as much money as money possible to donate at this time. All teams will simultaneously donate their fundraising money (two-minute grace period) and show a member of the HTB Entertainment committee their confirmation email. The team with the highest bid within each division gets the opportunity to penalize another team in their division. The winning teams pick is a predetermined penalty to inflict on another team. The selected team endures the penalty until 4:30 PM. Or, if the penalized team “matches” the winning bid amount and shows a member of the HTB entertainment committee their confirmation email, they can end their penalty early. Penalty choices include, run with a big hat, carry a big stuffed animal, carry an extra large backpack, run backwards, run two laps instead of one, or run with two people carrying the backpack.
Spikeball Tournament (12pm-2pm): As a day-long event, teams that sign up will have representatives participate in a Spikeball game against another team (matches being held throughout the day). Whichever team wins the match will earn laps towards their team in addition to points for attending.
Cornhole Tournament (2pm-4pm): As a half-day event, teams that sign up will have representatives participate in a cornhole game against another team. Whichever team wins the match will earn laps towards their team in addition to points for attending. Matches will be held throughout the afternoon to accommodate our many participating teams.
Fundraising Total (all day): Bonus laps are provided for teams that reach certain fundraising milestones. Laps will be awarded as follows: $25,000+ = 100 laps, $15,000-$24,999= 85 laps, $10,000-$14,999= 65 laps, $5000-$9,999= 50 laps, $2,500-$4,999= 30 laps, $1000-$2,499 = 25 laps, $500-$999 = 20 laps, $250-$499 = 15 laps, $100-$249 = 10 laps, $50-$99 = 5 laps.
