Bio: Wake Forest '10 (BS) & '11 (MSA) Avid runner and fan of the film Brian's Song and have read the book which inspired the movie: I Am Third by Gale Sayers who recently passed away on Sept. 23, 2020. F3 Nation calls me Chicken Strip. Here's my anecdote/memory from the 2008 Hit the Bricks event. I signed up not anticipating how much running I would do. Despite not being in shape at all and definitely not the runner I am today, I ended up running around the quad with the backpack of sand for 10+ miles. The next morning I was more sore than I'd ever been in my life. I honestly thought I'd gotten out of the bed, but then realized I hadn't moved and for a moment was convinced I was paralyzed. I became acutely aware of every staircase on campus and carefully plotted routes avoiding them. When I did face a set of stairs I tried to determine if it would hurt more to walk/limp down them or just roll down them instead. I also still have a scar on my back from where the backpack of sand rubbed against it all day. Thank you for all donations which go to Brian Piccolo Cancer Fund to support innovative cancer research initiatives that improve care for patients and honor the memory of Brian Piccolo, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons and Chicago Bears running back whose life was cut short by cancer at age 26.
